Dianhong literally means “Red Yunnan” (province in southwest of China) and it refers to red tea (commonly known as black tea in Europe). This tea is produced in the city of Fengqing from the Dabaihao variety (Dabaihao – Big white hair) and it has high amount of orange tea buds. You can recognize the high quality of such tea mainly by the content of hairy yellow buds, by which you can determine the spring harvest. However, this is not the sole quality marker as other black teas with a small portion or without yellow buds, can be also outstanding. It is necessary to mention that this tea requires soft water low on minerals, otherwise it can become too strong and astringent when steeping in a small volume with a lot of tea leaves. With good water and a steeping approach, it can be a very good companion. It has a clear infusion with smell of apricots and cocoa beans. The taste tends to be like after eating dark chocolate and it has warming effects, suitable for winter.

I recommend to use soft water low on minerals, to get the best out of the tea. Due to its hairy tips the infusion can be a bit cloudy, so you may filter it. In the infusion you can find the fragrance of apricots and cocoa beans. The taste tends to be like after eating dark chocolate and it has warming effects, suitable for winter.

One of the best Dian Hong tea I have ever had. In this kind of tea I am always looking for strenght, dried fruit or ripe fruit notes and tobacco with pleasant dry wood notes like in dry summer forest.
This tea doesn’t have much of tobacco (maybe little bit, also can depend on used water), but is nicely aromatic in the rest of my favorite flavours spectrum.
The smell of the dry leaves is not strong. I had a doubts when I smelled it in the preheated gaiwan, but present mild fruity note told me that I should wait with the conclusions.
After the short rinse it appeared strong fruity and nougat aroma in the wet leaves with hint of creamy liqueur.
The most prominent in taste are red cherries and you can feel the summer dry forest warmth – just like I love. The liquor is quite thick and really smooth and round. Finally after all of that summer forest, cherries and nougat there is white chocolate aftertaste.
Really nice and pleasant tea, great for cold autumn and winter season.
