I have several years of experience with Haiwan and Laotongzhi, and I can say that their dark puers are really something unusual. Every time I get my hands on a brick of dark puer “shu” (dark puerh) from this company, it’s almost guaranteed to be worth it. With this puer, it truly is astonishing experience. When we did a shu puer tasting a few months ago and I got this sample in my hands, it completely overshadowed all the other shu puers. And it wasn’t so much in the depth of the tea, but its aroma and sweet taste make us smile and eventually laught. Of course, the sweet taste can’t be perceived if you’re drinking another type of tea or, heaven forbid, consuming something sweet. The sweet taste struck us after drinking heavier shu puerhs. The aroma was dominated by a strong woodiness that reminded me of freshly toasted oak barrels, literally, the roasted oak wood. I would even say that there was a hint of vanilla. But the sweet taste simultaneously gave the tea tones of molasses or, as we all eventually agreed, hazelnut chocolate.
This tea was produced in 2014 according to the formula of the company’s founder, Mr. Zou Bingliang, and has been stored in a warehouse in Guangzhou (Guangdong Province) ever since.
This tea has positive effects on digestion, as well as on uplifting the mood.
