Changning Yesheng gushu hong – ancient trees Taliensis

9.0016.00

The city of Changning is located in the Baoshan region of Yunnan province south of the Langcang (Mekong) River, where I led a tea expedition from 2016 to 2018. Countless old Camellia Taliensis tea trees grow on both banks of the river. It is a species different from the Chinese tea tree Camellia sinensis, which can be observed by the morphology and structure, as well as the oxidative and sensory properties of the leaves. These oxidize very quickly, which is why black tea is often made from it. And so it is in this case as well.

You are looking at tea made from old “gu chashu” 古茶树,which is estimated to be over 1000 years old. This black tea has a pronounced sweetness in taste and notes of elderflower and tropical fruits can be felt in it.
Taliensis almost never becomes bitter by steeping, but I recommend making infusions from it for about one minute.
