Hello, and welcome to my site. The picture above with a basket of fresh tea leaves was taken during my first lonely tea trip in Yiwu mountains in 2012 in the furthermost southwestern part of China in Yunnan province, where the Puer tea is produced from old tea trees. I got there just by a coincidence, which was presented almost in every tea exploration in China I was undergoing later. These coincidents somehow related to almost all my tea meetings, so I describe them as a “tea wave”. Just simply because very often I was searching for a good quality tea, something similar happened and I felt like surfing on a big tea wave. I do speak fluent Chinese even though I am a “laowai” (a name for foreigner in China), but speaking about the tea culture and sharing a good tea wherever I go usually opened many doors and invited many possibilities. Of course, you have to be careful not to be tricked into a well-known business trap, where a Chinese counterpart invites you for a feast in a vision of getting a good trade with a foreign customer. But I was trying to avoid that by tasting tea before any conversation about business may occur. But back to the introduction. My name is Michal Bútor and I finished Chinese studies and language at Comenius University in Bratislava in 2010 since 2012 I was travelling and guided people to tea places mostly in southern China (From Shanghai to Chengdu). Tea is my passion and here you can find teas from producers I personally met or from tearooms whose tea and their approaches impressed me a lot. The period of discovering China on my own and guiding people lasted from 2012 to 2019 (except in 2014 when I was broke) and hopefully will continue also in the future.
