The smell of this green tea is hard to describe in words, but its name already makes it clear that it is something special. Lanfei (lan-fej) 兰妃 means Orchid Beauty. The early delicate leaves of the Mengding Mountain tea tree, traditionally called Ganlu – Sweet Dew, are scented with small orchid flowers after drying, which are then removed. It is interesting that this aroma penetrates the tea to such an extent that even after the fourth infusion, a full-fledged aftertaste of orchid flowers remains. In the beginning, I could smell hazelnuts in the taste, and after a longer infusion, a bitter taste with a hint of chestnuts. The intoxicating aroma of meadow honey spreads in the scent of the infused leaf. With such tea, in China they talk about the Art of tea – chayi 茶艺。
